CURRENT EVENTS
A. Water Festival Boat Racing:
BFT was very honoured to be a part of Cambodian Water Festival Boat Racing from 1-2 November, 2009. Approximate 2,000 people watched it and about 65 pairs of boats joined in this event.
This is the first time for BFT in this festival. We lost but enjoyed our participation because the Boat Racing showed an important part of our culture and many Cambodians and foreigners participated, from hospitals, government departments, NGOs and private sectors. This event was a valuable demonstration of our common cultural heritage.
B. The Race of 14th Anniversary at the Angkor Wat International Half Marathon
Fifteen students from three schools (KV, SS & BFT) and 20 staff and volunteers from the BFT Centre ran in the race of 5 km. There were over 3,000 runners present on that day (December 6th). All of the children were proud to participate and enjoyed the event. They met many people including foreigners. One of the students from BFT achieved an honourable sixth place in the race.
The International Half Marathon is good exercise for physical strength, health, solidarity, and for showing our qualities as human beings. The International Half Marathon is one way of gathering people from different nationalities to join together, speak to each other, make friends and keep contact with each other as one family in our world.
For the next of International Half Marathon, BFT will think how to share and integrate our BFT programs, and how we can contribute to make the event more cooperative, friendly, enjoyable and peaceful.
C. 1st Graduation Ceremony at BFT center
Congratulations to the first graduation students at the BFT centre. There were 86 students who graduated successfully from their various BFT courses at BFT. The ceremony was presided over by a representative of The Ministry of Education and other local dignitaries. Over 86 official certificates were distributed to students for the successful completion of their training courses in leadership skills, community development, report writing, English language and computers. The students are from NGOs, university and some are involved on an individual basis. The certificate will help them toward possible employment.
D. Children Football Tournament
The entertainment groups were formed such as Football and volley ball and so on. These groups were formed among school children at Kravan and Srah Srang schools and BFT center. The football teams were trained on the technique and played many times. Each team has their own capacities to perform based on the mentors/ trainers. The result from the Siem Reap primary school cup of the soccer matches in 2010 was that Kravan team which combined with BFT members won # 2 among other 40 different teams from all over the Siem Reap. All the children at KV school are so proud and happy and they hope to take # 1 for next year tournament.
